2022 Toyota Tacoma vs. Nissan Frontier

2022 Toyota Tacoma vs. 2022 Nissan Frontier

Overview

If you're in the market for a midsize truck, the Tacoma and Frontier should be two on your list. How do you know which truck fits your needs best with so many features to examine? Let's look at the 2022 Toyota Tacoma vs. the 2022 Nissan Frontier in a head-to-head comparison.

Trims Available

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma is available in six trims: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro. Standard features include 16-inch steel wheels and a sliding rear window, while the top-of-the-line Limited has 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a silver grille, and a sunroof. You can get the 2022 Nissan Frontier in just three trims: S, SV, and Pro-4X. The standard wheels are a 16-inch style on the base model with a 17-inch option on the SV and Pro-4X. The Pro-4X does also offer LED headlights.

Off-Road-Ready Options

Toyota offers two trims for those who want to get off the beaten path. The 2022 TRD Off-Road comes with Bilstein shock absorbers, a lockable rear differential for traction on treacherous terrain, and an advanced off-road traction control system with multiple terrain settings with rock crawl available on the four-wheel-drive version. The 2022 TRD Pro takes everything a step further with all-terrain tires, off-road-oriented suspension and Fox Shock absorbers, a thicker front skid plate, upgraded exhaust, and a multi-terrain monitor or off-road camera system so you can see what's on the trail. You have one off-road-ready option from Nissan with the Pro-4X. The 2022 Pro-4X features extra skid plates, all-terrain tires, Bilstein shock absorbers, and a locking rear differential for enhanced traction when off-roading.

Safety Features

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma offers safety and driver-assistance features to add peace of mind to your trip. Standard features include an advanced air bag system, forward collision mitigation, a lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Available features starting at the SR5 include rear parking sensors, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera system. Nissan offers an advanced air bag system and forward collision mitigation as the only standard safety and driver-assistance features. You can add the Technology package to all trims to get a lane departure warning, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and automatic braking. The Pro-4X also has a 360-degree camera system available if you add the Pro Convenience package. While either the 2022 Toyota Tacoma or the 2022 Nissan Frontier offer truck utility as a midsize option, the available trims, off-road-ready options, and standard safety features give the Tacoma an edge over the Frontier.
