Base Features

The 2022 Tundra is a full-size pickup truck that has accumulated a loyal customer base since its introduction. With a solid reputation to build on, Toyota has made some impressive improvements to the new Tundra. The 2022 Tundra is available in several different trim levels that run from the entry-level SR model up to the stylish Capstone Hybrid. The SR trim starts at approximately $37,000, with the Capstone model starting at around $73,000.

The Tundra comes standard with a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission, which delivers 389 horsepower while delivering a fuel economy rating of 18 mpg city/24 mpg highway. The hybrid model gets slightly better fuel economy with a rating of 20 mpg city/24 mpg highway. The Tundra, however is one of the few full-size trucks on the market that does not come with an optional V-8 engine.

What’s New?

Toyota has given the Tundra a long-awaited complete overhaul for the 2022 model year. The last refresh that Toyota gave the Tundra came in 2014. The interior layout has been redesigned for a more modern look, while the exterior has also been given a more sleek and modern design. Several new trim levels have been introduced for this model year, including the Capstone Hybrid model which comes standard with 22-inch wheels, chrome trim, and a host of other features.

 

Along with multiple trim levels, several packages are available within certain trim levels. For example, the SR5 model is available with the popular TRD Off-Road package. All models feature a newly redesigned rear suspension system that greatly improves ride quality over previous model years. In addition, several technological improvements have been made to make this Tundra one of the most tech-savvy trucks on the market.

 

Infotainment and Technology

The Tundra now comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment center that can be upgraded to an industry-leading 14 inches. The newly redesigned infotainment comes with wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity, as well as a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. The standard 8-inch touchscreen comes with a volume knob, while the 14-inch version does not. A 7-inch digital driver information center is standard for 2022.

 

Innovative Driver Assist Technology

The new Tundra comes stocked full of impressive safety and driver assistance features. One of these features is the Adaptive Cruise Control. This system allows the driver to set the cruise control while using radar technology to automatically adjust the speed to maintain a safe distance from the other cars on the road. Automatic high beams that sense oncoming headlights and lane departure alert round out some of Tundra’s class-leading available driver-assist features.
